We all daydream about teeing off at the Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass or enjoying the stunning view while scoring a hole-in-one at Monte Rei.
However, there are lots of fabulous golf courses closer to home too!
As the number one retailer of preloved golf equipment in the UK, it’s fair to say we’ve tried and tested a few national golf courses in our time. Here are some of our favourite UK golf clubs and courses that you should definitely book a tee time for!
1. Sunningdale Golf Club
Sunningdale Golf Club in Berkshire offers not one, but two fantastic golf courses to play on, both of which frequently appear in the top ten golf courses in England.
Play amongst the lush heather and pine of the old course, or challenge yourself on the exquisite new course. Whichever you choose, you’ll soon be back for more.
2. St Enodoc
Cornwall is known for a lot of things, including pasties, surfing, and seafood. Now, you can add golf to the list.
St Enodoc offers two different courses, the Church Course and the Holywell course. Whichever course you play on, you can be assured of stunning views across the Atlantic and a challenging playthrough.
3. Royal Belfast Golf Club
The Royal Belfast Golf Club is one of the shorter courses on this list, but don’t let that fool you! This course is designed for those who love a challenge.
Built next to a loch, you’re sure to enjoy some awe-inspiring views while you play.
4. Silloth on Solway
The best UK golf courses are often hidden in sleepy villages and towns, and Silloth on Solway is no exception! Located in Cumbria, this golf course is the perfect stopover if you’ve enjoyed a holiday in the Lake District.
While it may take a little while to find, you’ll be rewarded with glorious views and a unique playing experience.
5. Royal Porthcawl Golf Club
Regularly voted the number one golf club in Wales, the beautiful Royal Porthcawl is located in a way that you can see the sea from every hole.
A challenging course at the best of times, the difficulty of this course amplifies even more when you have the sea wind blowing in your face!
6. The Shire
When you think of The Shire, you might think of little hairy-footed hobbits, but this course is far removed from the fantasy novels of old!
Frequently rated the best golf course in London, the legendary Seve Ballesteros designed this course, the only one of its kind in the UK. Look for the S-shaped lake that pays a beautiful tribute.
A contemporary golf course with lots of challenging holes, this course is definitely worth adding to your list.
7. Royal Liverpool Golf Club
If you feel happiest amongst the sand dunes, Royal Liverpool Golf Club is definitely worth a visit!
Over a third of the course rests in the dunes meaning this course is the perfect place to practise your bunkering. One of the more challenging courses we’ve played, the beautiful scenery makes it all worthwhile.
We recommend taking it all in at the ‘Punch Bowl’ for some stunning views of the Welsh hills!
8. St Andrew’s Links
Would this be an article about the top locations to play golf in the UK without mentioning the birthplace of golf? St Andrew’s in Fife, Scotland, has a wonderful atmosphere for both novices and experts alike.
With an incredible seven courses to choose from, including the magical 600-year-old Old Course, every golfer should play here at least once in their lifetime.
