Rory McIlroy - What’s In The Bag?

As a former world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking, it’s no surprise that all eyes were on Rory McIlroy MBE at the recent Genesis Invitational. While Jon Rahm was the star of the show, returning to first place, McIlroy also put in a respectable performance at this Californian tournament - which is such an important fixture of the golfing calendar.

The Northern Irish player took part in the 97th edition of the PGA tour tournament at Riviera Country Club, California in February 2023, and with a whopping $20m prize up for grabs, the heat was most certainly on. This was also the event where Tiger Woods was due to make his much-anticipated return to the PGA Tour, but a leg injury forced him to withdraw.

The clubs that the professionals choose to play with at this famous February event tend to set the trends for the golfing year ahead, so let’s take a look at the golf clubs that Rory McIlroy chose to compete in this high-profile competition.

TaylorMade Stealth Driver

Driver: TaylorMade Stealth Plus & Stealth 2 Plus

McIlroy started out with a first-generation TaylorMade Stealth Plus, but after the first round, he switched to the new Stealth 2 Plus driver, and also changed the loft to 9 degrees. He obviously read our post on the best drivers for 2023! Alongside, he used a Fujikura Ventus Black 6 X shaft.
