How to improve your swing - Our top 5 tips

There’s nothing more important in golf than proper technique and skill. That’s why golf professionals dedicate their entire lives to mastering their swing.

But unless you’re planning to stand at The Masters with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Jack Nicklaus, you probably don’t have that kind of time. Luckily, whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, there are plenty of simple tricks and tips for improving your golf swing.ain.

1) Ensure your balance is firm

The very first thing to concentrate on when teeing up for your shot is getting your balance right. Spread your legs slightly further than shoulder-width apart and distribute your weight evenly between both legs and between the balls of your feet and your heels. Your balance and weight will shift as you swing, but nailing this initial stance will ensure fluid motion.

2) Relax your grip

A common error among new golfers is gripping the club too tightly. This makes your entire body very rigid, so it becomes difficult to perform a smooth swing.

When teeing up your shot, pause, breathe in and loosen your fingers. Taking the time to relax your body will help you improve both your power and accuracy.

3) Focus on the right part of the ball

People often say that you should keep your eye on the ball. But this is only half of the story.

When teeing up, look specifically at the back inside quarter of the golf ball. This is where you should strike to hit a draw, a right-to-left shot with powerful flight. Then, after impact, keep your eyes well forward of the ball to ensure you’re moving it in the right direction.

4) Prioritise technique over power

Although a powerful swing is an important part of golf, you should always start by making sure your technique is correct. Once you’ve learned the muscle memory and theory behind a good swing, you can then increase the power for the most impressive shots.

How much should I spend on a hybrid golf club?

Just like when you’re shopping for other golf clubs, you always get what you pay for. But the beauty of buying used golf clubs is that you can bag yourself a really great spec of golf club for a fraction of the price of a new one. And if it’s not right for you, you can simply trade it in for another model.

The key consideration when you’re buying second-hand hybrids online is that you pay attention to the condition of the club. This is the biggest clue you’ll get as to how much use the club has already had.
