We love digging into some of the world’s best golfers’ golf bags and finding out what golf clubs and equipment they’re selecting to help them crush the competition. This month it’s the turn of Xander Schauffele, who needs no introduction, but here we go anyway! From drivers through to putters, let’s find out which clubs he’s using to scale the rankings (at the time of writing (July 2024), he’s currently sitting pretty at number three in the World Golf Rankings.)
What's In Xander Schauffele's bag?
But first, a bit of background…
Born in San Diego, California on October the 25th, 1993, Alexander Victor Schauffele is an American professional golfer who shot to fame in 2017 winning the Tour Championship. In 2020 he secured gold in the Tokyo Summer Olympics in the men’s individual golf event. Then, earlier in 2024, he claimed his first major championship title winning the 2024 PGA Championship. A birdie on the final hole at Valhalla Golf Club secured him a score of 21 under par (a record low).
He began playing aged nine, and his father Stefan has been his swing coach throughout his career. Stefan believes strongly that golf club mechanics and ball flight laws are the most important thing to focus on in golf (hence why Xander didn’t see his own swing until he was 18!).
So, what’s in his bag then?
Schauffele is a member of Callaway’s staff, and he’s currently using Callaway golf equipment almost exclusively but not entirely. As of 2024, his driver of choice is the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond 10.5° driver, renowned for its low spin and sleek looks. And sticking with the Callaway Paradym range, his fairway wood of choice is a Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond fairway wood with 16.5° of loft and known for low spin, low launch and bags of distance. And as for hybrids, the Callaway Apex UW gets Schauffele’s vote (which is the original version that’s since been superseded by the 2024 Apex UW..
The shorter game…
Once Schauffele has gained the distance and accuracy he’s looking for from the tee, that’s when his Callaway Apex TCB irons (4-PW) come into play. Low handicappers love this Callaway iron set for its soft feel and all-round performance. As a golfer known for his strike, he tends to stick to this iron set fairly regularly. He’s currently playing with a Callaway Jaws Raw wedge for serious spin, and as for his putter, that’s when it’s time to break away from Callaway. He’s more likely to experiment with his putter than any other club, and golf aficionados will not be surprised to hear that he’s currently using an Odyssey putter for his short game, opting for a red Toulon Design Las Vegas prototype 7CN.
