A common sight at PGA tournaments and celebrity pro-ams, Titleist is an instantly recognisable brand that golfers know and trust. Titleist (pronounced Title-ist, and derived from the word ‘titlist’ which means ‘title holder’... just in case you were wondering), was established in 1932 by Philip E Young.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN…
Like all good brands, there’s a nice story behind the brand. Young missed a putt that should have gone in while he was playing a round of golf with his dentist, and he was convinced that the weight of the ball was to blame. He convinced his friend to X-ray the ball with his dentistry equipment, and sure enough - they found that the rubber core of the ball was off-centre. Intrigued, Young started X-raying more balls, and found that most of the ones he inspected were prone to erratic shots - badly made with off-centre cores.
So, he set about improving things, and having invented a machine that wound rubber string around a rubber core in a uniform way, he started to produce his own golf balls - calling them Titleist - the ‘winner’. In 1935, Acushnet Process Company started mass-producing Titleist balls, and the rest, as they say, is history.
WHO ENDORSES TITLEIST GOLF CLUBS THESE DAYS?
Today, Titleist drivers, irons and fairways are in hot demand from both amateurs and professionals, along with their range of accessories such as golf bags and of course golf balls. It’s a common brand that’s spotted at the major golf championships and celebrity pro-ams, and over the years Titleist has endorsement deals with leading players such as Cam Smith, Danielle Kang and Cameron Young.

WHICH BIG PLAYERS HAVE BEEN CONTRACTED BY TITLEIST IN THE PAST?
Titleist has also previously contracted other star golfers such as Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. Phil Mickelson was also aligned with Titleist until he made the switch to Callaway after he won the 2004 Masters. It’s also a brand that was present in plenty of the winners’ bags at the 2022 Majors.
