FAQs: Golf Club Shafts

Can I change the shaft on my favourite golf club?
Yes, you can. You’re never bound to the shaft that originally came with your golf club. It’s a great idea to experiment with different shafts (including different flexes and material) to see which feels right for you. Check out our buyers’ guide to golf club shafts to learn more.
What’s the difference between steel and graphite club shafts?
Steel club shafts are usually less flexible than graphite ones, and tend to be cheaper too. Graphite shafts are lighter and have more flexibility. If you’re looking for good levels of forgiveness you’ll probably prefer graphite shafts, but if you’re all about durability and control then steel might suit you better.
How do I know when it’s time to replace my golf club shafts?
There are many reasons why you might want to change your golf club shaft. It could be because it’s just old and worn, or perhaps you’ve had an accident with it and it’s been damaged. Alternatively, you might want to change your club shaft just to try out something new.
Can I replace golf club shafts myself?
We don’t recommend it, unless you know what you’re doing. It takes a fair amount of skill and knowledge to do it properly, but we offer golf club shaft fitting services at our Edinburgh and Warrington stores.
