Why using golfclubs4cash is miles better for the planet

We’re Europe’s biggest second hand golf equipment company, and we’ve proven that our business model is reducing the environmental impact that the golf industry has on the planet.

In a pilot study conducted over a 3-month period, Circular Economy Consultancy, Circulogic, was able to determine that by extending the lifecycle of golf clubs, golfclubs4cash customers contributed to a saving in carbon emissions of nearly 900 tonnes, corresponding to approximately 3 million road miles (that’s the equivalent to removing over 470 petrol cars from the road over the trial period)*.

“By facilitating the extended use of products, in this case golf clubs, golfclubs4cash is avoiding the production of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and environmental damage caused by the extraction, manufacture and supply of new products,” explains founder of Circulogic, Dr Geoff Sampson who produced the analysis. “Our bespoke carbon modelling estimates the carbon benefits of golf-sector reuse-based businesses such as golfclubs4cash and the initial results are impressive. This is an example of a business delivering sustainable reuse at scale”

The pilot was commissioned by golfclubs4cash as part of its sustainability strategy. We are already implementing positive environmental actions that aim to reduce our GHG emissions in line with the UK government’s commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2050. These include moving away from fossil fuels (including electrification of vehicle fleets), switching out single-use plastics and utilising recycled materials wherever possible. We are also looking at ways to encourage others to work towards a Circular Economy.

“Recycling is universally accepted as something that everyone can do to make a positive difference. But Reuse is more carbon beneficial than recycling and is a key component of a ‘Circular Economy’,” explains Dean Cracknell, Head of Marketing at golfclubs4cash. “By putting products back into circulation, we extend the product life and reduce the need for future manufacturing. These combine to give us a significant carbon emission saving of a staggering 890+ tonnes for those golf clubs received in the 90-day pilot period.”

Circulogic and golfclubs4cash will continue to work together to refine the carbon modelling across the 3 different ways in which golfers trade in their equipment; in-store, by post and at events. In doing so we will identify opportunities to further enhance our environmental credentials.

* Based on the ‘UK Government GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting’ for an ‘average petrol car’ and annual usage of 6,500 miles.
